(Avoiding Boredom At All Costs)

Here's the secret for living a potentially boring,
unfulfilled life: only do what is asked.
Only do what is asked of you at work.
Only do what is asked of you at home.
Only do what is asked of you from your friends.
Only do what is asked of you from your loved ones.
Only do what is asked.
In my opinion, that's the secret to life-long boredom, low
self-satisfaction, enjoyment and productivity.
WHY NOT PAY MORE?
All good things come with a built in price tag which reads
extra effort required.
To enjoy the good life with our children, we must pay the
price of extra effort.
To enjoy the good life with our mates, we must pay the price
of extra effort.
To enjoy the good the good life within, we must pay the
price of extra effort.
But.
It doesn't have to kill us.
At times a few percentage points above average will do the
trick.
Just a few. 10%? 5%?
Who knows?
IT'S THE EXTRA EFFORT THAT COUNTS.
At times it is 110% extra effort.
A child needs attention.
A loved one is hurting.
A project needs to be completed.
The budget must be brought under control.
The vacation must be planned.
THE POINT
Think about this simple phrase:
The best in life...
Comes from making the best effort in life.
One more time.
The best in life...
Comes from making the best effort in life.
THE DISCLAIMER
Sure, an unreasonable boss may require too much.
Way too much.
A mate, child, friend or loved one may demand the same: way
too much.
We all know the disclaimers in relationship to what I'm
saying. My focus is not on the exceptions.
My focus is our general, overall effort. The way we
approach life.
IT JUST MAKES SENSE
It makes sense to try hard.
It makes sense to do the best we can.
It's good for us.
It's good for our families, our places of employment, our
communities and the world in which we live.
The better we try the better results we will see over the
long haul.
And, I believe, the better we will feel about ourselves.
WHERE COULD YOU?
Where could you pay more?
But first, remember two things.
1. Remember the disclaimers.
2. Remember that it can be just *a little bit more* -- and
no more! (Doing too much, too often, while feeling too
guilty and being too tired is a prescription for disaster.)
Having said all that.
In a good, healthy, way...
Where *could* you pay more?
Where *should* you pay more?
