Here is an entirely different use for free blogs - I use them for free 'Mini-Web Sites'.
Necessity is the mother of invention. I had researched Viral Marketing and Residual Income affiliate plans, and had discovered some new kinds of affiliate plans. I designed some residual income systems around these plans, using the principles of viral marketing to produce an amazing amount of residual income for anyone who used the systems.
But I needed a way to put them online, that could be easily duplicated for free, by anyone, even 'newbies' to internet marketing.
I investigated blogs. I found another amazing fact that is not being taken advantage of by the internet marketing community: Blogs are as easy to use as EMAIL. And almost everyone online uses email.
So I experimented with weblogs, starting some 25 of them in the past year, all free. I found that blogs make excellent mini-sites. You can include all of the hyperlinks you want in a blog, and the blog hosts love you for doing it. They provide a 'Link' button, for putting hyperlinks into your blogs.
To use a blog for a web site, you sign up just like signing up for a free online email account, with a username and password. The Username will be the NAME of your blog online, like your 'Domain name'. Select a name that fits your purpose. If the name you want is already taken on one blog host, use another host - there are dozens of free blog hosts - I give a big list of them, in my 'Blogging Tips' page; see below. Just start a private folder on your computer, and save your URLs, usernames and passwords in it.
Then you type or 'paste' your sales copy into a java typing box in your blog, just like in your email account, and click a button, just like 'sending' the email. But when you click that button, what was in the box is now INSTANTLY ONLINE for free, with its own unique URL. You simply refer people to your own blog URL, to read your sales page.
I set up some instructions showing how to use blogs, online, IN a free blog. In my Residual Income Systems, I simply link to those blog instructions, to show people how to use a free blog, as an instant, free way to put THEIR copy of a 'Residual Income System' online. (They just 'copy, and 'paste' my page into their blog.) And another link takes them to another free blog page, listing 16 unique ways to refer people to their page.
My free residual income systems combine a few affiliate programs, of unusual kinds, into a small list of affiliate plans. The purpose of this is to MULTIPLY your income from the list of affiliate plans.
- Every person who uses the group of plans, joins the whole group, as YOUR referral. So, just sending ONE new customer to it, multiplies your income from that customer, by the number of plans in the group. (I use the kind of plans that REQUIRE purchase, to become an affiliate, like Jimmy D. Brown's 'Nicheology' plan. There are a lot of these online now, and some of them pay 60% commissions and on up. One pays recurring, 100%, $100 commissions, that MULTIPLY at every step! - See the two blogs below, for examples.)
And the affiliate income from it is RESIDUAL, it recurs every month, in the case of subscription plans. In the other group of plans just mentioned, the plans have a ONE-TIME purchase, but they can supply a continuous, MULTIPLYING flow of many, many sales commissions, even from ONE referral, after you qualify. This is because of the new type of affiliate sales plans employed in the blog. (2-up affiliate plans)
- I show people how to simply 'copy' my page, and 'paste' it into a free blog of their own, then refer new prosects to it. (Or they can use a free website, like from Angelfire or Geocities, if they don't want to use a blog, or upload it to their own web site.)
Most people think they are on a web page when they get to a blog page, and they are free, and instant. And you can edit them at any time, to replace your sponsor's links with your own affiliate links.
A system like this ELIMINATES SPAM. Everyone is advertising THEIR OWN URL. Spam will only hurt the SENDER! Even blog hosts will shut you down for spam complaints. You are referring people to YOUR OWN URL, instead of to individual affiliate links. The links are on the page.
I admit, this has some drawbacks; a lot of people want something SO EASY they won't go to the trouble of setting up a blog account, even though it is as simple as setting up a free email account: Just a username and password. Then all they have to do is copy and paste, then 'edit', to insert their own affiliate links.
And if they PLAN to use spam, and realize they can't, they might drop the whole thing. (But you didn't want THEM in your system anyway, did you?) And you can't use fancy stuff, like flash, graphics, or Java on most blogs.
But if it's CONTENT you need, or sales copy with some affiliate links, blogs work great. One of my system's USER'S blogs turned up on the first page of Yahoo Search, in just a FEW DAYS, #6 out of 117,000 pages returned for the name of the system. (Giant Fundraiser) It is a verbatim copy of my system page. Blogs are Search-Engine-friendly.
Just type up your sales page, or content, in notepad or wordpad, paste it into a blog page, and you're in business. Just go in and 'edit' your links, using the blog's 'edit' and 'link' functions, to convert them from text links into hyperlinks.
This is a new way to use blogs: As long as you want that page to show up as your 'web page' when visitors get there, don't ever make another entry to that blog. - The new entry will push the first one down, out of sight. So just EDIT your blog. If you need to make another entry, sign up for another free blog instead.
Blogs make great mini-sites. And you can start as many of them as you want, all for free. Link them together with hyperinks, for a complete website, all hosted for free, and all instant. I even put my disclaimer in a blog page, linking to it from the main page. You can name each blog something appropriate, and use hyperlinks to connect them. All blog hosts have the provision to include links in a blog. And the blog hosts LIKE links. The more, the better.
But using them this way, to make an easily duplicated affiliate link page, allows you to MULTIPLY your returns from a LIST of affiliate plans: anyone who joins, and wants to earn income with your list of plans, joins ALL of them, using your affiliate links.
For a couple of examples of how I did it with my residual income systems, please see http://www.Do-Nothing-Income.com and http://www.GiantFundraiser.com . (Take note of the requirements in the copyright notices on those pages.)
These redirect to my free blogs from domains parked for free at Godaddy.com. So the whole systems are hosted entirely free, except for the cost of registering the domain names.

David Thorne has been researching Viral Marketing and unusual affiliate plans for almost two solid years. These are the 45th and 46th residual income systems he has designed in that time, and the simplest. One describes the new, multiplying '2-up' plans (there are only three online so far), the other uses two new 3-tier plans.
