Do you know what to say to someone when
you first meet him or her? Can you explain who you are
and what you do in 30 seconds?
In our busy fast paced world we often only have a few
moments to grab someone's attention. If we fail to do so
in those first few moments, we may have lost their attention
and a sale forever. Fortune 500 companies have studied
this social phenomenon in detail and recognize its
importance.
An elevator speech is a 30-60 second clear, articulate
sound-byte in non technical terms that describes who
you are, what you do, why the prospect should be interested
in you, and a next step.
THAT'S IT, NO MORE , NO LESS!! It will take you about 30
seconds or so to deliver this and hopefully get agreement from
the prospect for a follow-up meeting.
Your goal is to grab their attention quickly, make it easy for
them to understand what you are saying and see a benefit in
what you have to say. You are NOT trying to close a sale, JUST
to get a next step opportunity.
OK. Lets go through some preparation on creating your
30-second sound-byte. Your 30-second sound-byte
consists of 4 parts.
Preparation:
Before actually creating your sound bite answer the
following 4 questions about you and your business.
1. What do you do?
2. What problem do you solve for people? How do
people benefit from your product or service?
3. What is unique about you or the way you do what you do?
4. What kind of person is your ideal client or referral?
Who are they, and what situation are they in or what
problem do they have?
Creating your Sound-byte:
You know how. (This is where you describe the
problem/situation or concern of your ideal client.)
What I do is. (This is where you describe how you solve
the problem in a way the is appealing, and what makes
you unique).
After completing this you have a 30 second commercial
that you can give anyone, anywhere, at anytime. This is
great for standing in line at the bank, grocery store, hardware
store, or anywhere you have a minute to introduce yourself.
